Conservation Scouts

Get wild about conservation and scout out solutions to help save our planet.

Conservation Scouts is a two-hour program that allows scouts to get involved with Potawatomi Zoo and talk about conservation.  After completion of the program, each scout will be awarded a Potawatomi Zoo Conservation Scout patch.

Cost of a Conservation Scout program is $10.00 per scout with one chaperone for every five scouts admitted free.  For example, two chaperones would be admitted free between ten and fourteen scouts.  Additional adult chaperones are $8.00 each.

To maximize the scouts’ experience, the Education Department does not allow siblings or other family members in Conservation Scout Programs.  Families are welcome to visit the zoo during the program and then meet up with your scout troop following the program.

Due to classroom space, programs are limited to 40 people.

Level One: Species Conservation Status
Potawatomi Zoo introduces Brownies, Tiger and Wolf scouts to conservation as they create their own conservation dictionary, complete a zoo scavenger hunt, and meet animals in a safe-threatened-endangered presentation.

Level Two: Why Conservation is Important

Junior Girl, Bear and Webelos scouts will understand the importance of conservation after meeting the Rare Scare gang, building a food web, completing a scavenger hunt, and more at Potawatomi Zoo.

Level Three: Endangered Species Causes & Solutions
Boy Scouts and Senior Girl Scouts can discover why species are becoming endangered, what they can do to help, and what Potawatomi Zoo does to help conserve species.  Level Three Conservation Scouts will study the case of the Florida panther, play the conservationist consumer’s challenge, discover how zoos manage animal populations, and make enrichment for some of Potawatomi Zoo’s animal residents.

Program Availability
Conservation Scout Programs are available from April through November during normal zoo hours (10am-5pm).
