Length: Chinese alligators rarely exceed 7 feet long (2.1 m), with 5 feet (1.5 m) being a more common size. Weight: Weight is approximately 80 lb (36 kg) Description: The Chinese Alligator is one of two living species of Alligator. It is smaller than the other Alligator species, the American Alligator. They have proportionally larger heads than young American alligators of the same size, as well as having scales that are more granular and a pattern of faint, light bands against their dark background.
Range/Habitat: The Chinese Alligator is native only to China. Chinese alligators prefers slow-moving freshwater rivers and streams, including lakes, ponds and swamps. Also found in both low-elevation agricultural and tree farm communes.
Diet: Wild: Alligators are opportunistic feeders, eating almost anything they can catch. When they are young they eat fish, insects, snails, and crustaceans. As they grow they take progressively larger prey items, including: larger fish such as gar, turtles, various mammals, birds, and other reptiles.
