Description: Although guinea pigs are not found in the wild, their close relatives, cavies, are found throughout South America. It’s believed that guinea pigs were domesticated as a food source around 7000 years ago.

Guinea pigs are a social species, and highly vocal. They have six main vocalizations that mean different things: chutts, squeaks, whines, whistles, purrs, and chirps. Guinea pigs are known to be good pets, as they’re gentle and easy-to-care for, as long as they’re kept in groups of at least two.
